Biography:

I am a vascular surgeon and Professor of Vascular Surgery at UWA. My primary research interests include all aspects of abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA), the epidemiology and management of peripheral arterial disease, the pathogenesis of diabetic arterial disease and the assessment of cardiovascular risk.

I have led large scale population-based studies such as the Western Australia AAA Screening Programme and the Health In Men Study (HIMS), and most recently have been involved with the WHO working party on the Global Burden of Disease assessment.

Funding:

  • Over $17 million in funding from 35 different grants since 1991, with five grants each worth over $1 million.
  • I have won 18 NHMRC Project Grants and a NHMRC Practitioner Fellowship.
  • Secured international funding from the NIH (R01, $1.2m) and the Wellcome Trust ($1.5m).
  • Currently Chief Investigator on five NHMRC Project Grants and a Centre of Research Excellence grant (with Prof. Jon Golledge, James Cook University).
